How poetic. This story grabbed and told nothing when it had everything to work with, an interesting crackpot, a huge movement, an interesting time in history which bought the snake oil in spite of the conservative times. Joaquin Phoenix steals the show...but you don't know why. Maybe they knew how bad it was and they just gave it to him? How you can spend all that money and say nothing about something is the most interesting thing about The Master.
