The Master(2012)- User Reviews

Any of the one-star reviewers labeling this movie as boring, or pretentious, or "the worst movie ever"--- if you are one of those dummies that regularly call movies you don't like "the worst movie ever"--- than you are the kind of moviegoer who does not like to think. There are a number of movies in release at any given time built just for you. I like those kinds of movies too, but why show up to a movie like “The Master” and blast it because you are too lazy to find deeper meaning in the material? If you don’t like to ask yourselves “Why?” just stay away from movies like this.

For real movie buffs, “The Master” is near brilliant, but not a masterpiece. I have a few quibbles here and there, but it has certainly been tumbling around my head for the past few days. The complexity of the central relationship alone is far from cut-and-paste. You can infinitely interpret the dynamic of that relationship but there is no one right answer. It’s a beautifully shot picture; a theatrical must, and the narrative is very tight, stylistically being P.T. Anderson’s least indulgent film. “The Master” is highly recommended. A-
