The Last Days of Disco(1998)- User Reviews

An interesting movie, if a bit trite.

This movie is basically a modern take on a comedy of manners set in the 80's, and as such it is dialogue-heavy and dialogue driven. The problem with Last days is that it never quite stays interesting enough to keep the viewer's attention. There are some 15-20 minute gaps in the film that are just really boring.

The movie is supposed to offer a glimpse at the lives of a group of waspy 20-somethings during the early 80's. Because of its genre, this movie is meant to be light and superficial, but there are moments where you wish the movie would dig a little deeper.

The downfall of this movie is that it is bound and limited by its own genre. But there are some great performances here, especially Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale, and there are some very interesting interactions between the characters.

Beckinsale's performance is especially refreshing to see now considering it was one of her earliest movies. She has kind of limited herself these days to thrillers and action flicks. It's too bad because she can actually act.
