The Killing Yard(2001)

Based on the events surrounding the 1971 Attica Prison uprising in New York, THE KILLING YARD tells the story of Shango Bahati Kakawama (Morris Chestnut), one of the inmates who--two years later--must stand trial for accusations of crimes committed in during the chaotic event. Facing a biased jury and unfair procedure, Shango's case is taken by liberal lawyer Ernie Goodman (Alan Alda) and his activist assistant, Linda (Rose McGowan). Initially distrustful of white Ernie, self-educated and politicized Shango eventually begins to form a bond with Ernie and Linda during the time that they steadfastly champion his case.
