I really wanted to like this movie. It had a great set up premise. A haunted hotel and two would-be ghost hunters who want to make contact. I thought the acting was pretty good. The movie had some great comedy moments and if the haunting portions of the movie were a bit more intense, it would have made a nice blend. You do get to know the characters and care about them. I've worked in retail for too long and I know how it is when you get tired and giddy, especially with helping other people. Those scenes between the leads were well done. Kelly McGillis, (remember her from Top Gun?) also did great as a washed up actress turned psychic. As I said, it had all the right ingredients, but the movie didn't go anywhere. I scare easily, and a few slow panning shots and a few basements scenes did get me on the edge of my seat, but as another reviewer said, sometimes there are long set ups in the movie that don't go anywhere. The ending isn't so great. Not because it's not a "happy" ending, but it just leaves you with more questions than answers. What did the psychic "see" when she tuned herself in with the hotel's spirits? You learn the story of the haunting but not what motivates the ghost. Too many plot holes and not enough resolution. Not bad for a rainy day rental, but don't go out of your way to see it.
