William Hurt plays the captain of a whaling ship out for revenge of a massive whale. In the movie,
courage,cruelty and pride manifest themselves in the seamen who seem soo tiny by comparison to the ocean and the cunning of an immense sea creature lurking below the ship.
In one quick gesture the whale takes down the ship and all aboard it, save for one crew man who manages to swim to safety on a wooden coffin. As for the captain,he gets tangled in the ropes and is strung around the whale who plunges him on a voyage beneath the sea....awesome.
Grade C+ for creature
