Any book made into a movie is never as good as the written work -- that is a given. But this adaptation is truly terrible. The characters are not developed, and MAJOR instances in the book do not even appear on screen. I am surprised that Suzanne Collins had a part in writing the screen play -- there are so many gaping holes in the movie. There were four of us who watched the movie, two of us read the book, and the others didn't. Many times we would pause the movie to explain in more detail something that was happening on screen. The movie made much more sense to them once the holes were filled in. The casting was great -- too bad the actors were not used to their full potential. I would rather sit through a longer, enjoyable movie (Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy) than sit through this overly condensed version. Hopefully they get it together for the next two.
