This was the first movie I walked out from in the middle. Ever. And not because this movie was badly made or failed to make an impression. Quite the opposite. I walked out because this movie is sick and disturbing. Kids killing other kids for entertainment. New idea, huh? Something to give you a bit of a thrill while you kiss you own kids good night and think that nothing is going to happen to them? Kids in the movie die, but the movie prefers not to show the reality of death. Dead kids are still beautiful, their eyes still display innocence, not a hint of agony on their faces and there is no blood shown. Of course! Hunger Games is all about entertainment! We only pretend it's death. It is and it is not. Like in computer games. Why make soccer moms vomit in their seats if they see death for real? If it's been portrayed the way it happens in reality? With blood and agony, with intestines falling out as a result of a stomach wound of the beautiful black girl Roo? With gulping sounds that a person wounded in the stomach makes? Huh? Watch "Reservoir Dogs" to see how it looks like for real. Yet we are watching Hunger Games. Eagerly anticipating the next development in the plot. Guessing who will be next. It's only a movie, for the God's sake. And it's not really about violence. It's about social injustice. It's about some crazy society in some remote future. It will never happen to me. It will never happen to my daughter or my son. Never, so we think. Yet kids die all around the world and we do nothing. What can we do? It's somewhere in Iraque or Sudan or, hey, what's that other country's name that's been in the news? Do you understand that we ARE the people from the Capital? The golden billion so we are called. Lucky ones. We ride fancy trains and eat fancy food. But imagine if your child is dying on this screen in front of you. You will be suffocating, crawling under the seat, crying for help. And what if all you see around are the people who "are not yet entertained"? They will be smiling to you, will be telling you to calm down, will be telling you that it's just a movie. What? Not so entertaining anymore?
