As a life-long Tolkien fan I was disgusted by this horrible affront to his work. It bore little resemblance to the book, as much needed to be added to turn a short book into 3 long movies. The dialogue was thin and the action was excessive and clearly based on providing 3D thrills. It felt more Muppety than the Lord of the Rings and often verged on wacky and zany in a clear deviation from the book. Don't waste your money or wreck your vision of the book.
