Traded Story For Exaggerated Special Effects

I'm going to re-watch the 1977 cartoon version in a bit, here, just so I can see the story completed; That's right, this 2012 version of 'The Hobbit' is part 1 of 3; this is just the beginning.

The short-list criticism:
1. Special effects don't feel genuine. LOTR was much better, and scenes felt more real.
2. Too many over-exaggerations in physics.
3. What’s with the goofy, huge, animated-looking characters everywhere?

What I liked:
1. Gollum scene was very good.
2. The nature scenery and visual presentation is splendid. The movie is very nice to look at.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie until the scene where 2 horses were stolen from the dwarves. From that moment, on, there seem to be an endless array of cartoony, fake-physics, style, beasts and ogres that draw the attention away from a fantastic story of pilgrimage and song. Instead, the attention seems placed on silly jokes and a never-ending onslaught of new characters which I don't recall from the book. So, I enjoyed what other people have called 'the boring parts' more than the rest of the movie; the 1st 20 minutes were fun, and showed the reluctance of the hobbits (in general) to have any adventure. After all, Hobbits are well at ease with hum-drum existence and eating a fine meal, away from the scourge of frightening annihilation, which could be outside of the shire. :-) I thought the director did a great job of showcasing this quality of the hobbits. I did enjoy the "Blunt the knives" song and scene, as well as the dark, very somber and invigorating, rendition of 'Misty Mountain' done by the dwarves, in front of the fireplace; very moving, for me. Thanks, director, I loved that scene!
