Not the Level of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy

I admit I read the book over 40 years ago but being older does not mean I am not appreciative of today's special effects which is what this movie is about and not the story. Avatar was much better at combining live action with CGI and animation then this movie. A large part of this movie seems to be made just for the use of the 3-D technology and in doing so has caused this movie to lose the majesty found in the LOTRs movies.

Peter Jackson seems to lost his focus on the epic adventure of Bilbo Baggins and at times has turned it's heros into cartoon characters rather then the mixed band of individuals of Tolkien's first foray into middle earth. The brown wizard rather then the unique, kind, magical person of the book is used as comic relief covered in bird #$%$.

I did enjoy the movie and do intend to see the others but hope they are edited better. I will credit the actors for their ability to be convincing when you know a great deal of their acting was done in front of a green screen.

Over All If you were looking for another Lord of the Rings experience this isn't it. The Hobbit stands on it's own for better or worse.
