I have finally gotten around to seeing the first Hobbit movie. While I had issues with the deviations from the text, the movie stands well on its own. The script is a mix of the everything up to the eagles in the Hobbit as well parts of two other works, "The Quest for Erebor" and "The Unfinished Tales".
Having seen this one in 3D, I shall not be doing so for the next two. I was not the only person who hobbled out of the theater, made dizzy or worse by the current technology.
