If you liked the action in Lord of the Rings, then this is for you. If you read the Hobbit, you are in for a shock. The book and the film are very different. The film is sort of a prequel of LOTR, from the perspective of someone who knows exactly how it will all end.
There is so much unnecessary self righteous dialogue in the film, that is simply not in the book, that you end up hating what Peter Jackson has done to the original text.
If you like action, and want to see an old text completely updated and given a 21st century treatment, then this film is for you. Peter Jackson did a great job with the original LOTR books, he definitely changed course for the Hobbit, an unexpected Journey. The film makes it as an action movie, but fails on every other level, despite some good acting and amazing scenery. Definitely wait for the DVD's for parts 2, and 3.
