I LOVED all three of "The Lord of the Rings" films, despite much worry about adapting them to the screen. Jackson exceeded my expectations and then some. The few gaffes and misplaced scenes or people were unimportant.
But in the 10 years since those films and their HUGE success, it seems that Jackson thinks he has a free pass to re-write Tolkien's original, simple tale of a frightened, conservative Hobbit who becomes a hero despite himself.
Not only does he alter Bilbo's essential personality, but those of many of the Dwarves, Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel (what was she doing in Rivendell?!) and worst of all, Radagast, the Wizard?
The flagrant violations of anything resembling "Hobbit" canon are so many, that I told my husband, who had not read the book, that it would be far easier to tell him which parts of the film were true to the book than not!
This was NOT "The Hobbit" I knew, but a huge, hyper-action, neon, CGI MESS! I wanted to punch something (preferably Jackson!) when leaving the theater.
