Does anyone in Tolkien's family actually approve the script before the movie is made? Or are they just too busy spending the royalties from these abhorrent movies to care. I will say that Jackson does a great job in capturing a visual of Middle Earth …more»3 of 7 people found this review helpful-

I did not like this movie. It was too long and bored me to death. So wish I could get the time back I spent sitting in the theater seat. Eventually couldn't take it any longer (after suffering for 2 hours) and had to walk out. First movie I had …more»2 of 6 people found this review helpful-

I'm a big LOTR fan, and in many ways The Hobbit prequel could be even better. With all that's going on, LOTR had to narrow its focus to man regaining its throne and destroying the ring. What was truncated in the LOTR series in the history of …more»6 of 7 people found this review helpful-

Was so looking forward to this movie and was so let down, it was not up to the level of the ring movies he did before. Even seeing it in 3D was not enough to dazzle us. They totally strayed from the book, and lost so much of the heart of the original …more»1 of 9 people found this review helpful-

I LOVED all three of "The Lord of the Rings" films, despite much worry about adapting them to the screen. Jackson exceeded my expectations and then some. The few gaffes and misplaced scenes or people were unimportant.
But in the 10 years since …more»7 of 11 people found this review helpful-

If you aren't an ardent follower, or if you are brand new to the story, you'll …more»1 of 2 people found this review helpful-

A lot of people are "baggin" on this movie because Jackson included parts of the Simirillion in it, which means it doesn't follow the story line of The Hobbit exactly. But what it does do is introduce stories that are a part of the LOTR …more»8 of 8 people found this review helpful-

Just saw it today. For being part of a trilogy, I thought it was a very good "First Movie". It set up storyline, background and character development. EXPECT it to be a "set-up" type of movie. If you think it is going to be any more …more»2 of 2 people found this review helpful-

What a movie. LOve love loved it. You have to watch this on big screen and if possible in 3D. The special effects, bilbo, the dwarf king everything was just brilliant. It has done full justice to the book. I have read this book so many times and was waiting …more»2 of 2 people found this review helpful-

The movie is not bad, but nor is it great. Middle Earth is a place near and dear to me and I thank Tolkien for his work. This movie is not Tolkien's book. Where did the vengeful orcs come from? The dwarven battle at Moria? The troll scene unfolds …more»5 of 5 people found this review helpful
