It's a well crafted, unnecessarily violent film about cruel monsters and cold people. Production values are terrfic but taste, good judgement and energy are lacking. To boot, it does little to make you want to ever visit Sweden or meet a Swede except in a crowded room. Rooney Mara is concentration camp thin and made up to look and act so unappealing it stains credibility to think anyone would give her a second glance. There is virtually no chemistry between her and Daniel Craig, who is his usual low-key self. While it is sometimes confusing it is also, at the same time, predictable. Three of us saw the film last night. Two found it confusing, and one of us had read the books. About an hour and a half into the 2.40 minutes one of us figured out who did what and who was who. You need a real taste for blood to enjoy this movie.. Hard to see how Mara snagged a best actress nomination other then for having to had to debase herself for the role.
