The Fan gets a little too dark

One could say that De Niro is always interesting when he plays dark characters but The Fan goes way past dark and enters the realm of despicable. Gil is a knife salesman who has one obsession: baseball. He lets it consume his life and others around him, namely his son. However, when his team gets a player who begins to have an awful season, Gil is sent over the edge. The Fan has some suspenseful moments and acting on both parts (De Niro and Wesley Snipes) is actually pretty good but it lacks much of a supporting cast. Almost no one else is given much to do and it's a shame. Also, Gil is even bold enough to throw child kidnapping into the scenario for no reason other than to get people's attention. It's somewhat of a misfire but De Niro fans may go for it.
