Long and Droll, Which Is Very Disappointing!

I consider The Royal Tennebaums to be an all-time top 100 classic. Rushmore too is genius and refreshing on so many levels. But now that Owen Wilson is no longer co-writing these screenplays, it seems Wes Anderson has lost his magic. Yes, his visual style is still a unique and flourishing palette of wonderful portrait shots, giving homage to a different era. But the story drags. Seriously, it is oh so slow. The jokes aren't clever, they fall like lead ballons. And Anderson seems to resort to slap stick maneuvers like pepper spray in the face. Finally, the analogy of family baggage is carried to painful degrees as they cart their luggage around India. I have to be honest, considering the talent around this movie, it is disappointing and makes me think The Life Aquatic wasn't a slip, but a trend. This Express is rental at best!
