To Strange for Comfort

When I saw the trailer for this file, I couldn't wait to see it. I waited and waited for it to finally show up at one of the "art house" cinemas here in Atlanta.

This was an example of superb marketing. The trailer was magnificent. It did its job by making me WANT to see a movie. It built anticipation and it got me into a seat at full price. Unfortunately, the trailer appears to have taken the best moments of the movie and strung them together for maximum impact. Well, I guess that's what we always expect of trailers. It's just that...well...the trailer is better than the film itself. In fact, I really felt cheated and angry.

Why didn't I like it? Perhaps it's that my expectations were so high that very little could have lived up to them. On the other hand, I think we're forced to face the problem that this movie is not interested, the acting product from a group of very good actors is beneath their ability, and that, overall, the film simply does not work. It maked little sense to me, and I cared little for the characters. It was just blah.

Mediocrity in my book is usually worse than failure. Ed Wood has his charms. This had none.
