Joss Whedon is the only person who seems how to make Sarah Michele Geller look good. Sarah should stick with Joss...

Clearly, this is a horror movie for thinkers. Yes, the formula starting out was somewhat predictable, but ironically so. References to classics like Evil Dead, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, and others seemed to be a kind of a tongue-in-cheek tribute to those movies most horror fans love. I felt like i had seen it all- tired of the same-old same-old. But I was surprised by this movie, sooooo NOT predictable, well not too much anyway. I was actually afraid at some points, and seriously wondered if i might have any nightmares after watching. As much as any of the monsters, one of the true horrors for me was the joy, the absolute glee, that the "upstairs" folks got from seeing the victims suffering. Don't know who wrote this, but as a horror writer myself, i say flippin' brilliant. This is one of those rare movies where i actually wished for a sequel.

lame...yes i too am a horror writer..a producer,a directer, and anything you need me to be as an expert in films...this movie sucked...it was not appealing to anyone who has the mental capacity past jr high...its meant as a money grab and the best scenes were shown on the ads...not worthy of theater price at all...

RezChick- I completely agree with what said, all except for the sequel part. The sequel, I find, would be predictable now that we've seen all the first could do. The best choice for them would be to do a horror video game. The game is controlled by the system up until the basement, where the player then takes control (just as the teenagers take control at that point). The story would shift around from what the players do and choose. An added feature would be to play as those "below" and create your own levels and deaths, then play in them.

X- You obviously overthink things. In the ads, it shows a bunch of teens running around in the woods. In the movie, we developed releationships with them, and those below, and actually felt for them. If you were a true "writer, producer, director", then you would at least appreciate this film. I am a TRUE horror writer currently about to enter film college. I've written three horror movies, directed one, and have written un-numerable amounts of horror short stories. I am glad that this movie came around and proved that not every movie needs to play on typical cliches to make money.

A little bit of spoiler viewpoint, but reminded me of:.
    .
.A little of "Westworld meets Evil Dead with a dash of Lovecrafts Cthulhu and 13 Gosts"

Gee "X" I don't even know where that's coming from unless you've got a problem with me using the word -dash-
In all honesty, seems like a gay question to ask in the first place considering this is a movie revue..
Maybe you're dealing with a lot of pent up frustration, actually my biggest concern is that you're asking because somehow you might be interested.

The people that say this movie sucked are the people that take horror movies WAY too seriously. The movie makes fun of the way that most horror films follow a set formula. It also makes fun of the audience members who get sucked into following that formula so rigidly that anything outside of that formula is somehow wrong or bad.The movie is SUPPOSED to be ridiculous if only to highlight how ridiculous most horror films are.

To "Anonymous" below me, yes, many people make minimum wage at 38, you annoying brat. Welcome to today's economy, the American Dream is a pack of lies. How old are you?

It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it silly.

For some reason, I felt Drew Goddard was trying to represent the monsters as villains because of the way they acted sometimes. I thought the creatures were targeted more towards being cooler than scary XD

Agree, it wasn't scary and the scenes were almost laughable. There was no suspense or moments that freaked me out. I was laughing at how fake it all looked. I agree House on Haunted hill was way better and the cheese of Friday the 13 is way better. If some psycho was out in the woods killing college students, it would have been more suspenseful.

It's SUPPOSED to be funny. it's a spoof of the entire horror genre. Way to go, not only do you have a terrible sense of humour, you missed the entire point of the film. Gold star for you :)
    • Laur 26 days ago
I'm sorry Amanda, that's your opinion...........the movie was advertised as a horror movie, not a comedy. I love a good laugh, but this movie was stupid. Actually you must be pretty stupid if you find humor in movies like this..........zombies, really???

has been a long since i saw a "horror" that was truly horrifying. as you said laughable, guess that's why i watch them, better than comic movies.

how can watching gore be fun to watch? please----give me a break..
    • Illyssa 24 days ago
For a "slasher" flick there was relatively little gore, and when there were was it was presented in a way that made it cartoonish. This movie was more of a spoof on horror flicks than anything else.

i was going to see this movie now i won't ..i saw Hunger Game it stunk bad

If you went to see "Cabin" for the gore, you're there for the wrong reasons. It's not a gore-fest (although there is some, it's not the point of the film). It's a tribute to the horror genre.
But I'm assuming from your post that you never even bothered to see the film before commenting. Your loss.

I'm divided. Alot of people loved it, alot of people hated it. I'll probably take the risk and see it simply because more of the people who loved it can also spell and write complete sentences.

It's pretty pathetic so many of you took the movie so seriously and hated it for not being a generic, stupid horror/slasher movie like every other before it. It was actually something original. Cast was good, parts were funny and the gore was great. Don't worry, I'm sure there will be some direct to video cabin movies where people go to have sex and die to another Jason/Freddy knockoff so you can feel your time wasn't wasted..

Can"t understand why anyone would like the "Hunger Games " over The Cabin IN THE WOODS. I Guess it was mainly for young teens, the hunger i mean. Guess I"m old fashioned, no disrespect to young teens though.

This movie was kind of ridiculous to say the least, but it is definitely a unique horror experience to ppl who are thinking about watching it. Some of the scenes at the end when all the BADDIES run wild and wreck havoc is cool to watch, other than that, the movie was stupid and bizarre. 2 out of 5.
  • brad  •  1 month 9 days ago
Honestly, I think it was worth it. Not your traditional "horror" flick. If you don't have a sense of humor, I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT..
BUT... its original, entertaining characters and didn't leave you hanging or feeling shortchanged. I didn't read any spoilers and I was not expecting the Exorcist, so I was entertained and you could easily tell that a large majority of the crowd in the theatre was entertained as well. I also liked that the trailers didn't give away or show the best parts of the movie.

The movie was very interesting from beginning to end. I thought it was a good play on all horrors put together. And the ending was superb i totally got it! LOL!

There seem to be two kinds of reviewers here. Those who got the joke, and those that didn't.

Absolutely loved the movie. It's clever and intentionally funny. Of course it's implausible and a bit off-the-wall, but does anyone actually expect that Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard would write a standard slasher flick? Seriously, comedy/horror/sci-fi is what these guys are known for. And, quite frankly, they rule.

the only thing that bugged me about this movie was the cameo. Same cameo appeared less than a year ago. Wish it was someone else. Other than that..favorite movie this year. I've never had as much fun as i did watching this.

    Loved it.
From the beginning to halfway of the movie, my friend and I were extremely confused at what was going on. At the end it made so much sense. It was an amazing movie, and I highly recommend it for any horror fan.
