I was 15 when this came out. Unfortunately, With its limited initial release I dint see it right off the bat. Some years later I bought the DVD. And yeah, Its in regular rotation on my movies to watch over and over again list. Why? Well, One name JOHN HUGHES. May he rest in peace.
Simply put , The characters , The simple plot, I mean an all day detention on a Saturday with the teens slowly realizing throughout the course of the day that they are more alike than differant from one another whether they admit or not.
Today its guns, beatings, walking through metal scanners into your High School. Basically everything innocent from the 80s has been lost to a new group of youths that should watch this movie and try and come away from it saying . Was this really real? Or was it fantasy.
No, This was the 80s. Never to be seen again.
Many other writers have tried , but Hughes had that special connection with his actors and havign that "rehearsal Time" they were given wich is now just ridciculous to even fathom becasue its " read that cue card and its a wrap!
IT jsut was a time in life of innocence , decadance , fun, and growth. At least for the persons who experienced first hand living in this time period and growing up in this time period .
Sad thing is , This will never happen again.
Everything was perfect about this movie . A home run.
R.I.P. John Hughes . YOu were one aof a kind . Id like to think of him this way. When the stories he wrote started to become , well, in the end , the same story. I think he felt it was time to go home . He made his mark. He told his stories . Nad he touched a generation as no other could . End of Story.
