Japan's favorite blind hero Zatoichi returns in the 2004 The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi. However, the welcome back isn't exactly the warmest. The plot which bounces around topics like a ball has the samurai entering a town ravaged by a ruthless gang that killed two girls' family. After much persuasion, our hero prepares to help them in their plan for vengeance. Though this is an interesting premise and could've made for a decent parody of 50's samurai films but instead becomes a convulted tale of less than par cgi and completely random sequences (ex: in one scene, Zatoichi randomly butchers an entire gambling spot) and a very irrelevant and ignorant tap-danching conclusion that isn't accurate at all. Fans of the classic hero may like it, the action is certainly there, but this hero may have been better off in the old films.
