Where shall I start? While the film was beautifully shot, the plot was all style and no substance. They shouldn't have called it "The Black Dahlia", they should have called it "the Bucky and Lee Story". Josh Hartnett performance is wooden, Hillary Swank throws her hips around like a bad Barbara Stanwyck impersonation and Scarlett Johannson looks like a 40's heroine, but her performance is flat. Aaron Eckhart has the only fair performance. I could not follow the plot twists such as they were and this movie had plot holes you could drive a tractor through. hard to figure out. Only about 15% was about Elizabeth Short and the rest was our Bucky and Lee. Part of the movie had the audience bursting in to laughter, which I don't think is what the director had in mind. A big disappointment if you ask me. Go see "Chinatown" or "L.A. Confidential" which this film aspires to be.
