Well Joss did it! I love Marvel superhero based movies. I have since Spiderman came out 10 years ago. This one though is the best in years and yes, I love the Thor and The Iron Man series and Hulk movies and Captain America. This effectively brought them all together and finally Samuel L Jackson owned the Nick Fury persona. In the past I just wasn't feelin' it. Maybe he went and read a few SHEILD comics? The action was on par with Transformers (YEAH I SAID IT!) with the character development that you get with Joss Whedon. Put all that together and you get... EPIC! This movie is long as all great epics are. The dialogue is great AND tight. The pacing perfect. There are scenes that will actually bring a tear and smart humor that will make you laugh. There was even one scene between the Hulk and Loki that brought tears to my eyes I was laughing so hard! It was climactic also. Well that's all I can say without spoiling and I don't do that. Go see this movie in the THEATER! Preferably in 3d as I did if you can! It is worth it!

marvel has done well since it was initiated with Blade, but they were putting the superhero movie on a downward spiral at first after 2002 because they had a string of bad movies before Marvel Studios existed, because other hollywood studios saw superhero titles as an easy cash grab so they thought it didnt matter whether or not the movie was good .. they knew it would make money ... 2003 was a joke because Daredevil was a disappointment and 2003 Hulk was one of the worst movies ... but that year was lucky to have X2: X-Men United which was actually well made .. 2004 had (2004) Punisher which was disappointing as a dark gritty film, Blade 3 which was ok but still fell short... 2004 was lucky to have Spider-Man 2 which was a triumph... by 2005 it was more downhill to the point where people started to lose faith in the superhero genre .. Elektra came out in 2005 in january (the dumping ground for bad films) and boy was Elektra bad (worse than its predecessor Daredevil), and because it was so bad, people kept saying "well at least we have Fantastic Four to look forward to in July because it is a new superhero kick off and it looks promising"..... WRONG .. in comes fantastic four, one of the most childish, cheesy superhero films that also fell short of expectations .. so 2005 was a forgettable superhero year for Marvel (DC dominated with Batman Begins, the saving grace of that year)... 2006 saw X-Men 3: the last stand ... was actually good for my taste but many thought it fell short and disappointed many and was overall classified as forgettable and killed the X-Men franchise .. so now even one of the most memorable franchises for people ended blandly... out with 2006...in with 2007... why don't we start the year with a new type of dark superhero we haven't seen before and see if it wins crowds ... in comes Ghost Rider .... a new superhero film that was so bad it was an incredible disappointment and one of the worst, poorly acted, lack of action superhero movies ever .... oh well, spider-man 3 will save us in a few months .... wrong ... even a character who was portrayed so well on the big screen still fell off the cliff....spider-man 3 fell far short of high expectations to bring the last marvel superhero that started off well to a really lame end. Fantastic Four 2 followed and was nothing spectacular (though slightly better than part 1 but instantly forgettable). So other than X-Men 2 and Spider-Man 2, the years between 2003 and 2007 were completely void of any good marvel films and led to believe that Marvel really has no future in film and the superhero film genre will die. I really lost hope by this time.

Until 2008 where they debuted Iron Man and i had no hopes because of all the misleading films that debuted in the past 5 years. But wait, now Iron Man comes out but when they display the "Marvel" logo at the beginning of the film, the word "studios" appears under it. Strange .... iron man was a hit and was one of the best marvel films to grace the screen in years ... so now marvel has its own studios and justice is finally being served... ever since 2008, we have been given what we wanted because it wasnt until marvel studios was instilled that we get the films we deserve...so all it took was for the main source behind these characters to make the films right ... it only makes sense... no one understands a Marvel character better than Marvel itself ... with the exceptions of X-Men Origins wolverine, Punisher War Zone and Ghost Rider 2 ... 2008-2012 was triumph for marvel and it seems they are on the come back... and we know that the only reason those marvel films between 2008-2012 sucked is because marvel studios hasnt re-acquired the rights to those characters yet .... bottom line ... i am a fan of marvel but the only way these films will turn out well is if marvel studios makes the films of all of their characters.

Marvel Studios I was very glad to see but it lasted a microsecond before acquisition by Disney. Judging by Avengers Marvel is being given creative control I suspect but not being inside I don't actually know.

Can someone please give Black Widow a real gun. Her little autos where a joke. What were they a 10m Gloke? I would think Stark would have a gun she could have used.

This movie is really overrated, the beginning is just talking and taking and more taking is like 45min of blah blah blah. The enemy is not the appropriated for the avengers. I was expecting a very powerful nemesis that would fight them really hard. I honestly didnโ€™t expect an arsenal of brainless aliens that didnโ€™t know how to fight. I really feel on some scenes that I was seeing transformers.

If you are a true fan of Marvels I assure you a lot of disappointment, if you only want to enjoy the movie with your kids, you wonโ€™t be disappointed.

My rate is a B overall

At least give Black Widow a real gun, jk. One day DC will film the JL, that day a new record shall arise on the top box office.

It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Growing up in the 70's and reading and trading comic books was a big deal for kids. Throughout grade school and middle school there was alot of interest in these characters. I hear alot of people stating, "it was too much like a comic book movie." Really? I am not sure what they expected!?

If you didn't have a small smile on your face watching this, then you are emotionally dead.

Agree with the reviewer, empty, cheesy, emotionless movie that looks like a kids' movie compared to Nolan's superhero films.

Not good 7.5, first 45 min boring, last the brainless machines they were fighting. no suspense at all

Best way to tell if a movie is worth your ENTERTAINMENT dollars: Read something like this written by a film critic(or wannabe critic), if they hate it, go see it. It will be entertaining. If they love it, only go if you have suffer from insomnia, it will help you sleep.

Just saw it and already wouldn't mind watching it again. The cast is amazing. Mark Rufalo as the Hulk is second only to the original. Only issue I had is that I didn't know the Hulk was able to discern enemy from good guy.

Awesome!!!! Been waiting for this sense I was nine in the early seventies and wanting to see all that creative Stan Lee action for real. Making it work?... They gave Stark all the pop wit we used to get from Spiderman (now owned by Sony), They let Cap be Cap, They got Hulk correct, the pacing was a slow burn to an explosion and they played the parallel between what Cap did with a nuclear weapon with what Stark did with a nuclear weapon perfectly!!! Gonna see it again. nuf said...

I bought Tickets for the 11th. It's going to be a madhouse on the 4th. If anyone talks about it before I see it, I'm covering my ears.

Loved the movie, but i thought for sure some of the moments from Thor, CA, and Iron Man fighting each other would have an affect on the final battle. Iron Man when taking the nuke into the portal lost power, but during the hero fight scene Thor charges him to 400% by hitting him with lightning. Also, when Thor drops the hammer down on CA's shield it was like a bomb went off. Thought for sure they would have used these lessons for the final battle, and could have been cool to incorporate them, but regardless this was a great movie

Obviously Dr X u never read the Avengers comics. Because if you did, then you would know that " imature egos and psychological defense mechanisms" as u put it, is what the comic was about. I give two thumbs up to the director for staying true to the comic in ALL its elements. Nuff said.

I grew up reading Marvel and DC comics. This movie raised the bar for all hero team movies. I think Marvel was smart in doing the separate movies first, to help build ground work. Thanks Marvel for giving us fans a movie to smile about. Funny and action.
