The Artist, wow. What an azming film that tells a simple story with so many complicated and unique storytelling devices. I had no idea how this movie would turn out, and it suprised me in a way that I didn't see coming. People all around go on how good it is, but you just have to experiance for yourself. This is a silent film about silent films with silent films in it. It's also in black and white and has a time span that is so short, it feels extactly overlong. But nonetheless, it shows you old classic films can be reangenerated to this time zone. I remeber when I was younger, I would see my folks watch these types of films, and say 'how boring' but this is just stupefying! And in the theater, my buddy and I saw this, each time we made a simple little noise, it disctracts people and makes the noise even louder because the movie has no talking. But anyway, this films is about a guy who has everything, fame, fortune, fans, very succesful in his acting carrer, and many laughs. At first, I didn't really find him interesting because he presented himself to me as being very selfish. But then I thought about it, and that made me appreaciate him evern more. because selfishness is a human quality, and if he wan't like that, then he would have been a movie charecter, meaning a differnt charecteristic that what actually is. So that was very unique. His marriage is falling because of his actions and the way he presents himself to her. But luckily, he falls in love with a girl. It's very cute and charming how they first meet. their relationship is so touching that it moved me to be a beter person. Everyone in this deserves a special honor for their acting skills with no real lines to present but instead emotions all round. He then finds his life slipping away from him and being like a nonexistance on earth because everyone forgets about him. He choose with a life with silence and his boss, John Goodman, he was actually very good, keeps telling him talkies are the way for the future. The guy then needs to cope with that and some other stuff going on. My faaults with the film were, the emotions were flip floppy, meaning they were something that wasn't really presented in a way that I think people would present them in that situation, and I kinda wanted more subtitles, by that I mean when people talk on screen since it's a silent film, they have words to tell you what they said. Sometimes they didn't present them when I needed an explanation of what was being said, but most of the time they did act out and do what they said but it botherd me a little. The cast, cinematography, and messages are worth all the notice they can get, but what really brought to my attention, was the score. You move with it and tells a story within itself and all you hear mostly is the music and it didnt fail one bit. It was an A- for about 3/4 of the film, but the end was really different and was actually intense and sad. It goes a different way then you expect and it gives you what you want, an oustanding piece of Oscar Gold! (There is also the cutest sog I've ever seen that does special tricks and is at the guy's side all the time, he was just awesome)! I'm looking forward to seeing this again very soon.
