This movie actually delivers. As one reviewer noted, if you go in expecting a Chainsaw movie, that is what you get. Is it as scary as the original? Not even Close! But it is entertaining. The opening introduction of the female lead is awesome. The acting was actually top notch for a horror movie, at least for the friends who end up dying. And I thought they dealt with Leatherface better then the previous two movies in 2003 and 2006. He is mentally challenged, not a brutal killer. The people associated with him are the scary ones.
There were a couple of drawbacks.
1. The timeframe doesn't make a lot of sense. The original took place in 1973 and a newborn baby is basically adopted from the Sawyer Family, who are killed by the locals. The current movie takes place in 2012, making the baby now 39 years old. But we get a girl who is in her early 20's. The movie should have either taken place in around 1993 or an older actress around 39 should have been cast. But Hollywood is all about looks and getting the young people in the theatre these days.
2. I thought it would have been cool to see the actress from the original film Marilyn Burns playing Sally again in some way. But instead we get a cameo where she is playing I believe the aunt of Leatherface. It's a bit of a distraction.
