There are so many things wrong with this movie I don’t know where to begin. The story, the directing, the acting…

The story is just a mess. It never goes anywhere, has many holes and absurd action sequences. There is something about John’s father, another terminator and „If you stay the course you are all dead!”. (Which powerful line is completely wasted in the film.) But it never stands together as a complete and meaningful story. The first two films grabbed you by their storylines and took you for a great ride. This one just buzzes around like a fly bumping into windows.

The directing is also terrible. Scenes jump around and they are either too short or too long. The action is also either too fast or too slow never developing a good rhythm.

Actors disappoint also save for Sam Worthington. But not even he can make the poorly written and paced storyline work. Christian Bale is just terrible. What worked so well in Batman here completely fails. He seems to be mumbling through every scene and has virtually no emotions. He’s almost abscent from the film even though you see him on the screen. You find yourself connecting with and rooting more for Worthington rather than Bale.

This movie was supposed to revitalize a dying franchise. T3 was bad but a good fourth installment could have done wonders. Instead it killed it. This franchise now needs someone of Christopher Nolan like caliber to survive. It is possible, as everyone thought the Batman series was dead too. But it will take a miracle.
