Synecdoche, New York(2008)- User Reviews

This is a very mixed affair. I mean, this movie is definitely interesting. It is definitely trying to ask some questions and find some answers. However, it ends up attempting something very complex and impossible, and falls on its face ever so slightly. While the acting is great, the plot and what is going on is so wildly indecipherable you have to wonder if it means anything at all. I suppose the notion that it does mean something is what makes the film so intriguing. It only gets more and more confusing though, and by the end you are left wondering what you have just witnessed, and whether you liked it or not. It is very dark, and while its motives seem reasonable and even fascinating, it steps too far exploring them. It's pretty much impossible to understand this challenging piece of work completely. But, it's also unique and thought provoking, and I suppose it is recommendable.
