I generally like this movie. There are many problems and moments of irritation, but it won me over at the end.
This movie makes one think about our election process in America. This movie has a rather absurd premise, but you sense that the movie knows it. The point isn't the absurd set-up but rather the way it illuminates the campaign process.
If a presidential election depends on a single vote, then nothing matters but winning over that vote. It portrays campaigners as prostitutes, and it portrays average voters as shallow and ignorant. Nobody comes out smelling like a rose here.
The ending is not particularly realistic, but it is nice that most of the characters redeem themselves to some degree in the end. This is a get out the vote movie as it reinforces the importance of taking our responsibility in a democracy. But more than voting, we need to be paying attention. If the voters are paying attention, then politicians won't be able to get away with snowing the voters by pandering to them.
