Though it's a tale told many times, only the late great Christopher Reeve has brought out the best in Superman. Sent into space from Krypton before destruction, Clark Kent soon discovers his fantastic powers and uses them as Superman to protect the city of Metropolis. However, Lex Luthor, the brilliant mastermind who intends to pull the crime of the century, searches desperately for a way to destroy the Man of Steel. Though it's a tad dated, Superman is still every bit as fun to watch as it was in 1978. Christopher Reeve plays his part perfectly as does Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder. However, even with its 2 and a half hour running time Superman does feel somewhat rushed at some points. Along with that some of the other characters (Lex's henchmen) appear way too quirky and make it occasionally hard to take it seriously. Nevertheless, for fans of superhero movies, Superman is a must-see.
