A thoughtful meditation on the meaning of love in modern society. Peter Finch represents the buttoned up respectable professional man with one twist. He happens to be homosexual. Glenda Jackson is the witty employment office gal who is seeing someone on and off. Their lives intertwine in a very intelligent screenplay by the late film critic Penelope Gilliatt. If you want to see a master class of film acting this is your movie. Peggy Ashcroft is magnificent in a bit part as Jackson's no nonsense mother. Brilliantly directed by John Schlesinger.
