Hitchcock is the master, period. Craven, Carpenter, Romero and the rest of the modern-day lords of the horror genre probably have shrines built to him somewhere hidden in their homes.
Camera angles, use of light and music to create suspense and the originality of the whole film was ground-breaking in 1951 and it is still a good movie worth watch over and over.
Whoever is in charge of choosing classic movies to be "updated" needs to pulled aside and told this one is on the DO NOT TOUCH list. You cannot make it better.
