There are bad teachers, principals, painters, doctors, bus drivers, checkout clerks, bank presidents & cooks. Not all are bad though. This film will paint all teachers as poor/unmotivated. I'm not a teacher nor do I have children in the public schools here, nor am I a union member.
From what I read about the local schools - teachers have it much much tougher now than when I was in school. Back then - teachers were unquestioned. If I came home & told my mother that I got paddled, her reply was "good - you probably deserved it." It was assumed I was in the wrong. Now the pendulum has swung the other way; the teacher is never right. There's certainly no paddling any longer. It just seems both extremes are way off.
Teachers deserve a living wage. Most don't make much despite having (I assume in most cases) as least a bachelors degree & most (at least in Fairfax County, VA) have a masters.
Should poor performers be dismissed after repeated poor ratings? Absolutely. And they do deserve some job protection so as not to be dismissed on someone's whim.
Many unions have out-lived their usefulness, but teachers aren't highly compensated. I feel they deserve considerably more than auto workers or steel workers, but on average don't get it Those two are examples of unions being out-of-step & why so much of those products are now made overseas - those unions priced their labor costs out of the US market.
With all the emphasis on standardized tests, mixing in kids with learning disabilities in a general classroom (unheard-of in my era), English-comprehension issues by immigrant children & parents being considered to always be right -- it's a wonder anyone wants the job. I know I don't & I salute those who do.
