Terrific. One of the smartest, most theatrical (in the stage sense) movies I've seen this century (4 years, still).
One sadness: I can't find the soundtrack/Mark Isham's beautiful music for this film anywhere. The soundtrack wasn't released? …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

Mamet does everything right in this tight, engaging story. Even the music track is exceptional (very French in sound and theme) adding to the tension and the sense of dualism (revulsion and attraction). There is unpredictability at every turn and Mamet …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

"Spartan" is to "Mission Impossible," what Mr. Rogers is to the "hood!" Here Val Kilmer is once again a low-key, ruthless, practioner of underground sleuth and slayings.
Unlike MISSION IMPOSSIBLE however, you can miss the …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

Stinko. The synopsis of the movie is really great, but the script was terrible, taking all credibility right out the window. I was really dissappointed that Hollywood still has no clue of any function of the military. The marine corps has no Rangers. …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

The main thing that bothered me was that the solo "Spartan" agent, Val Kilmer, was supposed to be a super-agent type guy but to …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

You'll love this movie if you liked Spanish Prisoner or Glengarry Glen Ross.
Like those two efforts Mamet drops you right in the thickst of the action from the outset. After a nice little intro introducing Val Kilmers marine/special forces character …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

I am a huge fan of Val Kilmer, but this movie I swear to god was the worst he has ever done. I swear it was almost as if he was puposley delivering lines badly. This script was the weakest! Listen to the use of the word Baby, over and over. This wasn't …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful-

This movie is not worth your money - even in the video store. Bad writing, bad acting, and a boring story line sums it up. I went in with high expections (thanks to the experts) and came out laughing at what a waste of time and money I just spent. …more»0 of 0 people found this review helpful
