Skyfall is WAY better than Quantum of Solace (anything would be), but not as good as Casino Royale and nowhere near the Connery/Moore Bonds nor Brosnan's GoldenEye or Tomorrow Never Dies.
There is no intrigue - things are either set-ups for action scenes or set-ups for paying homage to things from former Bond films. Here lies one of the biggest problems to this re-boot trilogy. Bond is supposed to be a brand new '00' agent (Casino Royale). Quantum of Solace continues immediately after and this Skyfall supposedly not long after that. So how can there be an Aston Martin with 'ejector seat' to pay homage to?
The producers supposedly wanted to start from zero, so created Casino Royale at the beginning of Bond's career - so that they could have the freedom to re-do all the previous Bond movies (and thus prolong the franchise and make money). So it's a HUGE mistake to then pay 'homage' to things from previous Bond films - they haven't occurred yet in the re-boot world.
To their credit, the film ends with all the pieces in place for the start of a real Bond film - M, Moneypenny, Q, etc. are all finally now in place in re-boot world (after 3 Craig films).
They better get it right in Bond 24 - we need to see Bond in spectacular plots and save-the-world situations, not ordinary secret agent boredom. I also hope they keep the CGI well away from future Bond movies. Bond is real-world action.
