I will admit that I was not a big fan of "Casino Royale," which was Daniel Craig's first outing as Bond. So much so that I skipped the second one. But I decided to go see the third one during a rainy, boring Sunday and it did a fine job of mixing the old with the new.
Being an old geezer I love the suave, action-packed Bond moves of the Connery and Moore days. I liked Dalton and Bronson to a degree. You could always count on high action, dry humor, outrageous bad guys, silly gadgets, and sexy women. Then Craig came along and, while he is a fine actor, Hollywood decided to make it more serious and dramatic. It lost its luster as far as I was concerned.
This was a kind of return to the Bond of years gone by. It still had an element of drama but there was also plenty of high-flying action to keep the blood pounding. Plus it was a blast to see all these subtle references to the old movies because this was the 50th anniversary edition. A lot of fun for classic Bond fans.
