Skyfall(2012)- User Reviews

As a tribute to 50 years of Bond...Skyfall succeeds. As a standalone Bond movie; Skyfall surpasses.

Skyfall could have easily been the reboot of the series in place of Royal. Parts of me wish it was.

Skyfall ushers in an end to the idea that James Bond has outlived it's importance; as a character and as a cultural icon. This is the modern Bond.

Where past Bonds used technology and gadgets, Craig uses a physicality and emotion to get his on-screen work done. Skyfall is all about the ghosts of the past, and overcoming them. We get some glimpses into Bonds past (childhood) that have never been apart of the story, and it adds to the human side of Craig's bond.

The movie provides a fantastic glimpse into the flawed characters that Fleming created. Bond, betrayed by his own, internally conflicted but driven by duty and loyalty to fight against a villain who is similarly conflicted. On that note, Bardem as a villain is terrifying and awe-inspiring, and one of the best Hollywood villains to date.

Skyfall uses a script that paces fantastically. Where I felt Royal had moments where it slowed down too much (and Solas was rushed to the nth degree) Skyfall never feels slow, even though it is almost an hour longer then Solas. This is done by fantastic emotional acting during less action oriented scenes, and giving back story on characters that the audience cares about (while providing the best Bond action to-date). As well as giving some of the best Bond one liners since Connery's films, making Skyfall really fun. Craig fires off quips during action so naturally in Skyfall it puts all past bonds (besides Connery) to shame with how hard they seem to be trying by comparison. The sharp script is on a level that I didn’t see in Royal (and didnt have time to see in Solas).

Visually, Skyfall is breathtaking. The vivid lighting and unique locations keep your eyes locked...I am having a hard time picking a favorite location in the movie, they are all so good!

Long and short, see this movie asaNOW!
