A Review For The Grown Ups

Sometimes reading these reviews, I get the sense that the audience for Bond films are now technology using gen X & Y adrenaline junkies seeking comfort films that serve up predictable, challenge free entertainment for their short attention spans. That's why we get what we get in the movies these days.

I am a 48 year old American male and traditional Bond film enthusiast. I've read the books, and still go to see the 60 & 70 era films on the big screens at the revivals.

My take is this: Skyfall is true to Ian Flemming's traditional Bond, true to the legacy for Bond film enthusiasts - yet looking forward towards the future of the franchise with respect for its audience.
This is an intelligent film, devoid of excessive gadgetry, silly quips, and mindless action. That said, there is plenty of good action - and it is beautifully shot, choreographed and well placed. There is ongoing character development of the characters - an a nice look-back into Bond's life that bridges the past and the future. There is a great villain with a legitimate grievance targeted not at the world at large - but at MI6 - with the brains and the bucks to make the intrigue of international eye candy less appealing then the well executed action on the home front. This is Bond for mature folks - young and old. And I give it high ratings. I just miss the absence of bond babes. But there is room for and other foolishness later. The man is back - and the future is bright.
