Showgirls(1995)- User Reviews

OK, I was really worried during the first 20 minutes or so of this movie (spoiler alert). Why invite someone who just beat up your car, and then shoves you around, then runs into the middle of the road, to live with you? Why throw your fries at someone who just bought you food, or pour your ketchup in a way that will make it go all over the table? I thought this was going to be so broadly overacted (I blame the director for those bits by the way...) that it would be impossible to enjoy the movie.

However, after the Nomi character calmed down, and started dancing, and we met the other characters, I really liked it! The costumes were great, the story was (I thought) very interesting, and I found myself really rooting for Nomi -- and then so angry when Molly got raped by her celebrity crush, and then so happy when Nomi kicked his butt. Go Nomi!

There were things I didn't like about this movie -- like the implication that having a baby ruins your life, annoying... -- but aside from those bits, I found the film very enjoyable and not poorly acted at all; quite the opposite for most of the time.

If you don't mind a lot of gratuitous nudity (which at times was borderline artistic, other times soft-core porn) and some irrational choices (esp. in the beginning of the movie) by a couple of the characters, then you may actually really like this film. I recommend it, anyway!
