This movie is adapted from a stage musical, and I think the miscalculation on the studios part was that was forgetting that, while it may be a very popular stage play, it will appeal to a very narrow niche market. People who enjoy both this type of music, and musicals, are a small fraction of the movie-going audiance. That said, I truly enjoyed this movie. While there were a couple of parts where it started to drag, for the most part, it was very entertaining to watch, and even downright hysterical at times. There are several inside jokes with lyrics of songs from that era, and some surprises I didn't see coming. Tom Cruise has an excellent singing voice and played the rock god disconnected from reality perfectly. The mash-ups were well coordinated and everyone seemed to have been having fun making the movie as well. I don't buy very many movies, but I will defintely get this when it comes out on DVD.
