Another one bites...

UMMMM... lets see... a planet ran by humans who mistreat apes that get revenge by causing chaos and destruction on mankind. OMG how original, how unique... how about give me my money back. This was just another movie in the line of Halloween, True Grit and now Escape and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes that proves if you lack the talent to be original then mask it by being unoriginal and let CGI be the coverup.
This movie from beginning to end played on nothing more than a mediocre premise hopped up on CGI and a few semi-talented actors who have better face recognition than name recognition.
Tom Felton (Malfoy from Harry Potter) and Brian Cox (Braveheart, Iron Will etc) did their usual job of being the heavies in this movie. What a stretch (not) for these two who are in a real danger of being type-cast in the industry.
James Franco and Freida Pinto were deffinately two bright spots in this dismal excuse of entertainment. The chemistry between the two was acceptable but could have been built up a little more. James Franco played his part of a son trying desperately to invent a cure for Alzheimers that has infected his father, with understated emotion. Yet I find this being more from a poor directional standpoint than the actor's portrayl. Ms Pinto brought a fresh face (an a beautiful one at that) into this monstrosity of celluiod. She was believable opposite Franco and made the most of her role in this pigfest.
The best performance was given by John Lithgow. He played the part of an Alzheimer's victim as close to reality as this mundane script would allow. The writing of this part was over the top unrealistic but Lithgow was able to ground it into a believable and sympathetic character.
I left the theater feeling like I did when I went in which I believe was the most counter-productive 1 hour and 15 minutes I have ever spent. I believe that movies should extract a responce from the viewer whether good or bad... happy or sad... over the top or reflective and this movie did none of the above. I'm not sure whether I just didn't enjoy the movie because of it's lack of originality or poor directing or because I am coming down with a case of flu. Nope... I feel great... its the movie that needs medication. Is there a doctor in the house?
