3/5 stars.
Overall it was an entertaining movie, somewhat slow but not bad with good CGI and fantastic 3D. The characters were interesting, althrough they relied heavily on existing cultural references. It was not Pixar nor the usual Dreamworks quality in terms of story development.
**Spoiler Alert**
The villian of the movie, Pitch aka the Boogie Man, left a lot to be desired. The key to any superhero movie, which is what this, is good mythology and loathing of the villian. Villians make superheros, superheros dont make villians. Sorry Dreamworks, but Pitch is a one dimensional Hades in both looks and motivation with no real backstory and no emotion. Hardly what I have come to expect from Dreamworks.
With that said, kids will love the movie and its warm message about hope, never giving up and being true to oneself which is nice anytime of the year.
If however you are going to see this because you think this is a Christmas movie... Sorry, no. In fact the story takes place 3 days before Easter. The only reason I can see for why it was released now is because it has the characters Santa and Jack Frost in it. But no, this is NOT a Christmas movie.
Recommendation: As this is the only Christmas-ish kids movie out, go see it. However for most everyone who doesnt have kids under 10, rent it in 7 months from RedBox or stream it.
