Believe it or not, I find it hard to explain why this movie is so good.

This has to be one of John Wayne's best acting turns, and one of the most outstanding production and directing accomplishments for Howard Hawks. The scenery decpicting the typical Old West was beautiful.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE- its not a brainiac or murder/mayhem -- (well at least not a bloody one!) Its fun, nostalgic, a Great cast in an interesting combination of people... first western for a couple of them.

If you were to think 'great western film', you'd start with Wayne, probably add Ward Bond and maybe even Brennan... but Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson?
