In Resident Evil game, Jill Valentine is actually the main character, not Alice. This franchise would have been much more interesting building around Jill. The Alice character played by Mila is always the same in all five movies: shoot them up, kick & punch, no diversity.
Sienna Guillory is a much better fit for this franchise, in both Apocalypse and Retribution she stole the show from Mila.
This movie, Retribution, isn't the best of the 5, it had certain good moments such as the opening sequence. Plus a good concept, racing through several virtual nations built inside a giant dome: Russia and Japan, that were infected by zombies.
I gave this movie a 5 star mainly because I couldn't keep my eyes off of Sienna Guillory, she looked even better than she did 8 years ago in Apocalypse. So yes, this is a guy's movie. Girls shouldn't bother with it, unless they like meaningless action and storyline, or unless they're lesbians admiring their own gender.
On a sour note, this Li Bingbing really ruined the movie with her poor English accent and phony acting. Everytime I watched her scene it reminded me of watching one of those poorly dubbed Chinese kung fu movies from the '70s. How and why did Paul Anderson even hire her for this role? Why doesn't he hire a local female Asian actress, from LA, who could actually speak English??? Instead of hiring a washed up forty year old actress from China??? Not to mention playing a "Japanese" character. The most laughable part of the whole movie was looking at Li Bingbing fighting an army of zombies in a cocktail dress, what a joke.
But, this is another reason I give this movie 5 stars. Halfway into the movie, Retribution became a outrageous comedy I was laughing non-stop for the rest of the movie because it was so ridiculously stupid in every capacity.
