This movie is so disturbing. Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix, and Geoffrey Rush's performances are amazing, but the story is horrendous. This movie is truly not meant for children or people who do not like perverse things. Sexuality is a huge topic in this movie, and sometimes it dominates the movie so much that it takes away from the storyline. There is one scene where Abbe dreams of having sex with the dead Madeleine, while a statue of Jesus Christ sheds tears of blood. In a way it is religiously offensive and very, very perverse.
If you like blood, cut out tongues, murder, twisted sex, and disgusting scenes of lashings, head choppings and whatnot, this movie is for you.

If not, stay away!!
