Cleverly written and masterfully directed, a true delight to watch. The story takes place in a home for retired musical performers. Three members of a famous quartet request the Diva played by Maggie Smith to join them to make up the fourth member to perform for a yearly fund raiser. She has newly arrived and at first refuses. We learn that she has a past relationship with one of the lead male singers of the quartet with whom she was married to for 8 hours. Not wanting to give the entire plot away, lets just say the dialogue is sprinkled with humor, and small musical numbers performed throughout the movie by various retirees is a pleasure to hear.
The line was so long outside the theatre that they delayed the showing to get everyone inside. At the conclusion, fans clapped in approval. This movie meets the needs of an audience that is beyond tired of todays grist of the gun toting , the supernatural, the filthy language and most things that demean and demoralize the human spirit.
