I wasn't sure what to expect when I sat down to watch this earlier today. I knew I really enjoyed the Puss In Boots character in the Shrek franchise. As soon as the opening scene appeared I knew I was going to like this movie. Although it didn't have as much subtle adult humor as the Shrek movies, it still has some clever and witty cat related gags that were entertaining. I thought a couple of the dance scenes were over the top and could have been edited as filler. Overall, it captured my interest as it did for my 7 year old nephew who watched it intently. The animation is lush and life like. The story line held my interest and there was a sufficient amount of suspense to keep things moving along. I was pleased that the movie introduced other story book characters with a Shrek like twist including white trash Jack and Jill and brotherly nemesis Humpty Alexanader Dumpty. There were certainly some undercurrents of greed and distrust but in the end, everything turns out for the best. Not sure I would consider this the best animated movie of the year but it was good and it was entertaining.
