I haven't ever been the Glee fan even though I do like a few select musicals (Wicked, Chicago, Moulin Rouge). To me, Glee was always too gaudy in their performances and a lot of times terribly cliche. This movie was unique in that there were no instrumentals going on in the background, there were no High School Musical moments where everyone just broke out in song and dance. People that compare this movie to GLEE, either have never watched GLEE, or are just plain stupid.
The only complaint I have for this movie is it seems like the editing was a tad splotchy. Some parts of the story line seem to jump and the fight scene was really arbitrary and could have been written better. The plot does kind of carry on in a predictable fashion, like when Bumper just up and leaves vacating a spot for the nerdy roommate to conveniently fill in. HOWEVER, this is a comedy not an overly in depth film that requires a lot of plot and character development, so all in all a very good, very feel good, funny movie that is witty and worth a second viewing. I've seen it twice with my wife and we both can't get enough.
The music numbers are creatively mixed and energetic, and all done A Capella, not like Glee where there is a track being played in the background with in-character singing and theatrics. Plus, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Anna Camp are super cute and Alexis Knapp brings in the sexy for a nice cast that is easy to watch.
The characters are all entertaining, including Rebel Wilson and the super soft spoken Hana Mae Lee. Very funny movie!
