Pirate Radio,. 1960's Fantastic! by Maureen McNea

Went into Blockbuster and checked out “Pirate Radio” never heard of it before but loved the cast.
To my surprise, a Thoroughly enjoyable movie! I had forgotten, or maybe never realized, there was a time when Rock and Roll on the radio- was outlawed! Millions of people took to their radios in secret, to listen to Pirate Radio. Today, all music on commercial radio is dictated by sales graphs and computers rather than DJ’s choice.
Music had meaning in the 60’s , it was rebellious, fun, exciting, uplifting and made you feel like anything was possible. It was, of course, the sixties! From the cast of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans and a superb cast of characters….you can’t go wrong.
It was a fun ride through history that will make you feel young and wild again. I probably would of risked my Catholic reputation for one night on the boat! Bill Nighy, as in “Love Actually” was charismatic, sexy, yummy, Charming, and ever so stylish. The cast took you through a passionate wild comedic ride on Pirate Radio. There were so many likable characters in the movie, Including a surprise appearance by Emma Thompson- it would be tough to pick a favorite.
From the cool outfits to the unforgettable music., Pirate Radio takes you to another time and leaves you smiling for it. Kevin Branagh was excellent as a British powerful SOB that you just want to tape to an office chair and force him to listen to the music for 96 hours to see if he has a heart. The movie ends with such a heart wrenching moment that you can’t help but feel strongly about what their mission was,
The only disappointment, I left the movie wanting more.
I rate it an A+, a must see,. and a worthwhile purchase for friends who still remember what it was like to be Wild, exciting and free!
