As interesting as it is compelling, this is a coming of age story told against the backdrop of first, the overthrow of the Shah of Iran and then the rise of the Islamic fundamentalist. It is story that anyone can relate to regardless of gender, religion or ethnicity. It uses old fashion hand drawn animation (compared to computerize stuff popularized by Disney) mainly in black and white. I would highly recommend this movie, especially for Americans. We are so use to viewing Iranians as the enemies, but we really don’t know too much about these people, their lives and how politics affects their views of the world. This movie should open a lot of eyes so that people will realize we have many more things in common than differences and hopefully this will lead to greater understanding.
